WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR ENGINE OIL FILTER

If your oil filter is clogged, it prevents clean oil from getting to the engine and increases wear and tear on its moving parts. You may notice the following things if your engine oil filter is clogged or needs replacing:
  • -A drop in your car’s acceleration or overall power.
  • -The engine may stutter or sputter, especially when trying to accelerate.
  • -The oil pressure gauge drops rapidly as you’re driving.
  • -Your exhaust is very dirty or black and has a noticeable smell.
  • -A metallic grinding sound can be heard as parts of your engine start to come into contact with each other.

If your car has any of these issues, it’s time to call the professionals at SLICK for an oil change and filter replacement right away.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR OIL FILTER?

As a general rule, it’s best to replace your engine oil filter every time you get your engine oil changed. This will prevent contaminants and dirt from getting into your engine which will eventually start causing damage. Even if your oil filter isn’t quite at the end of its life yet, this regular preventive measure is better than having expensive repairs to pay for further down the line.

Recommendations on how often to change your engine oil vary depending on the age of your vehicle and the type of oil it uses but a general guide is as follows:
Conventional Oil
– oil change advised every 3000 – 5000 miles

Synthetic Blend Oil
– oil change advised every 5000 – 7500 miles

Full Synthetic Oil
– oil change advised every 5000 – 10,000 miles
Driving styles, road surfaces and weather conditions can also affect how long you can go between oil and filter changes. It’s recommended that a full oil change service is performed regularly to protect your engine and keep it running smoothly. If you’re not sure how long to go between changes, you can refer to your owner’s manual for more information on oil filter maintenance.
